Florida-BASED Kassim “The Dream” Ouma has won the vacant International Boxing Association Intercontinental (IBA-I) middleweight title after registering a unanimous points decision over Former WBO champion Verno Phillips on Saturday.

By Phillip Corry Florida-BASED Kassim “The Dream” Ouma has won the vacant International Boxing Association Intercontinental (IBA-I) middleweight title after registering a unanimous points decision over Former WBO champion Verno Phillips on Saturday. The Ugandan fighter dropped Phillips at the Dakota Magic Casino with a body shot in round nine and went on to win the score cards 96-93, 97-93 and 95-94. Ouma has done what Godfrey Nyakana failed to do in 1997 when Phillips met him in his World Boxing Union (WBU) title defence in New York. He has improved his record to 13-1-1 (9 KO’s) while Phillips record stands at 31-8-1 (16 KO’s). The fight was promoted by Sugar Ray Leonard Boxing Incorporated. ends
