Villa takes it

By Daniel Saire THE National Football League Committee (NFLC) has awarded three points and two goals to SC Villa from their match against rivals KCC that aborted last week. The ruling put Villa in a comfortable position on the Nile Special Super League table with 61 points, eight more than KCC. Villa now need five points from its remaining three matches to clinch its 13th league title. Villa and KCC can gather 70 and 65 points respectively if they both win all their remaining matches. NFLC that met yesterday at Nakulabye also ruled that KCC forfeits its gate shares for the day. Namboole stadium management is still compiling the value of the destroyed facilities. The highly billed match on October 6 aborted when fans rioted after Maurice Sunguti scored a second half goal for Villa. NFLC secretary Bwire Ouma said that referee Fred Kakooza implicated KCC players for having refused to continue with the match. Riot police fired tear gas to quell marauding fans, who threw “missiles” onto the pitch. Several people have since condemned the violence and urged FUFA to punish the perpetrators. Sports state minister Okello Oryem said government had declared the incident a terrorist act.
