By Alfred Wasike A SEVERELY traumatised two-year-old girl who had been starved to near death by a stepmother and rescued by a Ugandan child welfare organisation, Action For Children (AFC) is recovering. Susan Babirye Nabuko, the victim, lives with her grandmother, Satiya Mawejje and her father, Ssemakula Lwanga, a carpenter at Makerere Kikoni, a Kampala suburb. She was rescued by AFC’s officials on May 7, 2001. AFC counsellors visited the home and found a painfully emaciated child looking like a nine-month old. The New Vision published her story on June 2, drawing widespread public outrage against her parents.
