By Moses Odongo and Patrick Oyee THE Lira LC5 secretary for education, Geoffrey Ogweng has attacked the Government for decentralising ‘problems’ to the districts while retaining the necessary resources at the centre. He said this recently at a regional workshop on vector control in Lira. Ogweng said since malaria was the number one killer disease in Uganda, the Government should directly fund the malaria control programmes in the districts and municipalities. Micheal Okia, a senior entomologist with the Malaria Control Programme said the Ministry of Health was ready to assist all the districts and municipalities achieve their target of having 50% of all children under five years sleeping under treated mosquito nets by the year 2005. He asked the district and municipal council leaders to ensure that the project gets the necessary political and financial support.
