Three top seeds fall

THE Bell Lager Uganda open tennis tournament was yesterday hit by upsets that claimed three seeded players in the second round at Lugogo tennis courts.

By Douglas Mazune THE Bell Lager Uganda open tennis tournament was yesterday hit by upsets that claimed three seeded players in the second round at Lugogo tennis courts. Fourth seed Renatto Sebbi, Shaban Lwanga (7) and Chris Mutebi (6)were ejected by unseeded players. Hard fighting Sebbi who has been out of action for close to a year was shown the exit by Patrick Olobo 6-4, 7-6. Patrick Shirzadi defeated Lwanga 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the longest match so far that lasted three hours while Mutebi also fell to Stephen Mbazira 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 in a highly contested encounter. The favourites John Oduke and Kenyan Norbert Oduor easily advanced into the quarterfinals. Oduke walked over Alvin Nzaro while champion Oduor made easy work of Ronald Senyanja 6-0, 6-2. In the ladies singes defending champion Janet Magona defeated Hellen Kyeyune to storm the quarterfinals. Ends.
