CANDIDATES who will lose in the Friday presidential elections have been advised to accept defeat and congratulate the winners.

Eight presidential candidates are contesting for the highest office in the land.

“All the candidates cannot win at once. There will be one winner and, therefore, the rest should concede defeat and shake hands with the winner,” said Moses Musana, the chairman of Always Be Tolerant, a peace advocacy organisation.

Musana, who was yesterday briefing journalists about the peace awards to be bestowed on the winner at the Amnesty Commission offices in Kampala, urged the presidential candidates and their supporters to accept the outcome of the results and desist from causing violence.

He said the winner would receive the Mandela Peace Award after being sworn in as president, while the other contestants will be given certificates of recognition.

Makerere University lecturer Prof. Syed Abidi said peace and good governance were a prerequisite for economic growth.

He said the peace in the country should be maintained to attract more investors.
