OVER 150 families in Soroti Municipality were left homeless after a storm destroyed their houses on Sunday afternoon.

OVER 150 families in Soroti Municipality were left homeless after a storm destroyed their houses on Sunday afternoon.

The storm started at 10:00am when many people were in church and others in their homes. Property worth millions of shillings was reportedly lost.

Many people sustained injuries and property worth millions of shillings was reportdely lost in the storm.

Vendors in Kengere and Moru Apesur markets were in tears after the storm destroyed their goods.

Simon Ocen, the director Pius Vocational Institute, said the storm destroyed a dormitory and a three-classroom block at the school.

“I don’t know where the students will attend class from as we roof this block. It requires a lot of money because all the iron sheets are damaged,” said Ocen.

He confirmed that no student was injured since they were in church.

Teso sub-region has experienced drought for over three months, causing a water crisis.
