Hoima mayor to priotise roads, water

HOIMA municipality’s first female mayor, Grace Mary Mugasa, began her first term of office after she took oath on Wednesday at Hoima Boma grounds.

HOIMA municipality’s first female mayor, Grace Mary Mugasa, began her first term of office after she took oath on Wednesday at Hoima Boma grounds.

A total of 30 councillors were also sworn-in at the same function, presided over by the Hoima Chief Magistrate, Olive Namukwaya Kazaarwe.

Mugasa promised to prioritise the improvement of roads and to open up new access roads in the municipality, provide clean and safe water, improve general cleanliness of the town, start civic education programmes, offer leadership with integrity and fulfil people’s expectations.

Flanked by her husband Aloysius Mugasa, the mayor appealed to the new councillors to work for the people who elected them.

“People are looking at you with a lot of expectations and will be ready to pass their judgments after five years,” she said.

Mugasa thanked the NRM party, for propelling women’s emancipation to greater heights.

She called upon the councillors and the people to be patriotic and work for their country.

The town clerk, Amir Nsamo, called upon the councillors to work hard in unity and bring in innovative ideas to develop the municipality. He announced that the council was free of debts, having paid sh400m in arrears.

The function was attended by the Hoima RDC, Jean Kaliba and the DPC, Augustine Kasangaki, among others.
