I have a diploma in secretarial studies and a UNEB certificate (stage 2 and 3 in all subjects). Do I qualify for a bachelor’s degree in secretarial studies at Kyambogo University through the diploma holders’ scheme? Flo

Kyambogo University offers a Bachelor of Administrative and Secretarial Science. Ann Mugerwa, the university’s academic secretary, says you can be eligible for admission through the diploma holders’ entry scheme if you scored at least a second class or credit diploma.

I am in S5 studying economics, mathematics, physics and French. Which course can I pursue at university? I wanted economics. Anna

The courses you can pursue include education, land economics, development economics, commerce, surveying, quantitative economics, procurement and mechanical and telecommunications engineering among others. Mathematics and physics are the essential subjects for most of these courses. It would be better to pursue your dream course. But at this stage, you need to read hard and pass your final exams.

I am doing bachelor of science technology — chemistry at Kyambogo University, but what career opportunities can this course lead me into? Lozio

Chemists mainly work in the industry sector, especially in the production of chemicals and chemical precursors like dyes, soaps, polymers and solvents and associated chemical industries such as analytical and forensic/genetic laboratories. They could also find rewarding careers in the medical, dental, and pharmaceutical industry, while others are involved in teaching at all levels.

I have a second class diploma in procurement and logistics management from MUBS. If I enroll for a degree at Kyambogo University under the same course, will I be able to go for only two years? Frank

The Kyambogo University academic registrar, Ann Mugerwa, says the university is yet to have a two-year bachelor’s degree course. The courses take a minimum of three years. Since you have a second class diploma, she says you are eligible for admission, but even then you have to complete the course’s academic load which you cannot do in just two years because it is designed for three academic years.

I am in S6 studying history, economics, and divinity/literature (HED/L). Which course can I do at university? Akim

These courses include social sciences, law, mass communication and library and information management among others. My son in S6 is doing history, geography and divinity/literature. What degree courses can he take? Josh

The courses he can pursue are mainly those that do not require specific essential subjects. According to the joint admissions booklet, the courses may include, but not limited to, education, social sciences, social work and social administration, law, mass communication, library and information sciences, archives and records management, human resources management, tourism, urban planning, and secretarial studies among others.
