The term bread means ‘bread’ to almost all the people around the universe but not so to the Banyankore of Nkore kingdom in South Western Uganda.

To them the only bread is Akaro a type of locally baked bread from fingure millet. In Ankore, the question of what soup or sauce is going to be used for dinner, the main meal of the day is always asked, but not the type of food to be eaten.
Food is synonymous with Akaro, the only bread that is revered by the people of one of the greatest Kingdoms in Uganda.

Ankore Kingdom.
I once had an old man visitor to my home. At breakfast, we ate whole wheat bread and happily described it as the best bread because it was unprocessed; we also argued that the bakers also did a good job because they had not added salt or sugar as they do to other types of bread.
