KAMPALA - Lt Ronald Otim, the aide-de-camp (ADC) of the former State minister for Labour, Charles Okello Engola, is stable and out of danger, hours after he was rushed from Kyanja to Mulago national referral hospital in Kampala after gunshot injuries.

Otim was rushed to Mulago Hospital on Tuesday morning after gunshot injuries.

This was during a scuffle in which army Private Wilson Sabiiti fired at Otim hitting him on the shoulders, and then the legs. Before turning the gun to the late Engola.

According to Dr Rosemary Byanyima, the executive director (ED) of Mulago National Referral Hospital, when Otim was admitted, he was cautious but restless because of witnessing his boss’ death and what had happened to him at the crime scene.

Dr Byanyima told New Vision that when Otim was bleeding a lot, they put him in the casualty area and immediately carried out a CT-Scan to check whether any of his big vessels were injured then later they took him to the theatre.

“He was badly injured on both the legs and the right arm but severe injuries were on the right lower limb. We managed to stop the bleeding and this morning we transferred him from casualty to the ward. The bleeding stopped and his chest and stomach are in good condition,” Dr Byanyima said.

To protect the patient from extra stress, the hospital has limited the number of visitors who want to access him.

“He is still traumatized and we want to protect him from the public and journalists. So we are not allowing in uninvited guests because doctors are also still doing further tests,” Dr Byanyima noted.

On Wednesday, Dr Chris Baryomunsi, the Minister for Information Communication Technology (ICT) and National Guidance, also confirmed that Otim was getting stable.

“This evening, I checked on Lt Otim Ronald, the ADC to the late Minister Charles Engola. He is out of the theatre and getting stable. Thanks to the Mulago Hospital medical team for the care. Wishing him a quick recovery,” Dr Baryomunsi tweeted drawing quick recovery messages from his followers.
