Muni University has finalised the arrangements for the installation of its second chancellor and the fifth graduation ceremony.

Muni, the sixth public university is set to award bachelor's degrees, diplomas and postgraduate diplomas to its students and install Church of Uganda Archbishop Emeritus Dr Henry Luke Orombi as the second chancellor of the university on Friday, February 10th 2023, at the graduation square.

The university will be graduating 260 students from various science-oriented disciplines with 70 (26.9%) being females compared to 190 (73.1%) males, the highest-ever number in the University’s nine-year history.

Five of the students including one female will be graduating with first-class degrees.

The graduation and installation ceremonies are expected to be graced by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

During a media briefing today (February 07) ahead of the event at the university, acting vice-chancellor Associate Prof. Simon Aguma Katrini described the fifth graduation as a special one since it is going to be a dual event.

According to him, since its inception, the university has graduated a total of 379 (290 males and 89 females) people who are now serving humanity in their various areas of qualification.

“As you may have noted, in 2020 and 2022, the university did not hold any graduation ceremony. The year 2020 was due to the COVID-19 pandemic and 2022 was mainly due to the demise of our founding vice-chancellor Prof. Christine Dranzoa,” Anguma said.

Anguma, however, warned that attendance at the event will only be by invitation since it is purely an academic event.

It was further revealed that, after the installation of Orombi, he will then officially preside over the fifth graduation ceremony.
