Muni University is struggling to attract qualified staff from the West Nile region due to low education standards, Vice Chancellor, Assoc. Prof. Simon Anguma Katrini has said.

He made the remarks on April 26, 2025, while officiating as chief guest during a recent thanksgiving service for Dr Asaf Adebua, who obtained a PhD in education planning and management from Gulu University in January this year.

Katrini urged parents to prioritise their children’s education, encouraging them to pursue advanced degrees to remain competitive in the job market. Citing the book of Ephesians, he also emphasised the importance of love, humility, and patience in fostering moral and spiritual development within society.

The Bishop of Madi-West Nile, Charles Collins Andaku, who presided over the service, congratulated Adebua on fulfilling his promise to further his education. He praised Adebua’s hard work and sacrifice, noting that his achievement had brought pride to Ayur village.

Bishop Andaku also playfully advised Dr Adebua to wear his academic gown frequently, adding that those who pursue 'PhDs' in substance abuse would not achieve similar success.

Meanwhile, Wilfred Saka, the LC5 chairman for Terego district, commended Adebua for celebrating his achievement with gratitude. He criticised the mindset that limits job opportunities to specific regions and encouraged the community to prioritise education.

Saka also urged residents to focus on meaningful development rather than celebrating minor achievements, and to invest in their children’s education.

In his remarks, Adebua expressed gratitude to those who had supported him throughout his educational journey, including an elderly man who taught him to write in the sand and his sister Dina, who cared for him.

He thanked God for answering his prayers and advised the community to remain faithful and prioritise education.
