By the time the sun came out yesterday morning (April 24, 2025), Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba had turned half a century.

Scores of people thronged the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) at the headquarters in Naguru, Kampala to celebrate and offer congratulatory messages to Kainerugaba.

The well-decorated spacious compound had portraits of Kainerugaba with messages of success and congratulations.

From religious, and political to youth leaders, a multitude of supporters were visibly happy and chatting as the day unfolded.

Several well-wishers also took to X, formerly Twitter, to wish Kainerugaba, who is also the First Son, a long life.

Born 50 years ago (April 24, 1974) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania to President Yoweri Museveni and First Lady Mrs Janet Museveni, Kainerugaba has grown up to be a man who has won many hearts.

Kainerugaba is also the chairperson and patron of PLU. His birthday comes about a month since he replaced Gen. Wilson Mbasu Mbadi as CDF of the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF).

Mbadi was appointed Minister of State for trade.

His uncle and PLU national vice-chairperson, Michael Kaguta Nuwagira, popularly known as Toyota, said although challenges and victories have characterised the last 50 years, these have acted as a ground to groom Kainerugaba into a gentleman of extraordinary stature.

“I thank God that these challenges and milestones have been in his life because now we can see presidential material in him. He has turned out to be a statesman,” Nuwagira said.

He added that although Kainerugaba of late became busier due to his new role as CDF, PLU, he will focus on scoring achievements as outlined in their targets for years to come.

These, Nuwagira said are aimed at improving and providing for the welfare of the youth, lifting the poor out of poverty, and providing alternatives for social-economic transformation mechanisms for the government.

He revealed that PLU will soon embark on its nationwide mobilisation campaign.

Igara County East MP Michael Maranga Mawanda said by making 50 years, Kainerugaba has demonstrated that he is both biologically and ideologically ready to lead Uganda.

“Kainerugaba has tested himself, unlike other first sons. He is ensuring that there is continuity in what the National Resistance Movement is doing for the good of his country,” Mawanda said.

City lawyer Juma Kintu congratulated Kainerugaba for hitting the 50-year milestone.

“50 years is not an easier achievement. I thank the Almighty God for having kept and mentored him. Therefore, Uganda’s future is bright because Kainerugaba is a friendly man,” he said.

He added, “We are grateful to have Kainerugaba as our pioneer. Kainerugaba will soon lead the country because he is pro-people”.

The PLU sports club head, Evarift Asiimwe, said Kainerugaba has reached the stage of being a very good leader with a vision to lead Uganda.

PLU women representative for Toro subregion Judith Mukidi said she is happy because Kainerugaba has turned 50 years old and congratulated him upon his recent appointment as CDF.

She said Ugandans want to see a peaceful transition of power, where there is no fighting and bloodshed.

“We need a country that will surpass the middle-income status and we believe Kainerugaba can attain this. Your achievement is a testament to what you have been doing and soon you will lead the country,” Mukidi said.

The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among extended her heartfelt congratulations and asked God to bless him abundantly.

“May he enjoy good health and a long life so that he can continue to serve our motherland. I pray that God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit grants him all the desires of his heart,” Among stated on X (formerly Twitter).

“A very happy birthday, my brother Kainerugaba. May God, keep you protected and blessed,” the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa congratulated the CDF on X.

Emilly Natasha said, “May the universe align blessings your way as you fulfill your duty with strength and pride. Happiest 50th Birthday CDF”.

Vision Group chief executive officer Don Wanyama said: “Too many more wins Kainerugaba. Be blessed”.

Vision Group also wished CDF Kainerugaba joyous birthday celebrations and many more years.

“For by me your days will be multiplied, and years will be added to your life. Proverbs 9:11,” Vision Group tweeted.

Joellah Anshemeza, the Communication Officer of Government Citizen Interaction Centre Uganda, wished Kainerugaba a happy birthday and said his dedication and commitment to the UPDF and the country at large will inspire Ugandans.

The State House Investors Protection Unit head, Col. Edith Nakalema said, “Happy birthday to an incredible mentor Gen. Kainerugaba.

May God’s goodness and mercy follow you all the days of your life. Numbers 6:24-26 resonates today: 'The Lord bless you and keep you, make His face shine upon you”.
