GULU - Gulu Archdiocese Archbishop Dr John Baptist Odama has appointed Gulu Cathedral parish priest as the chairperson organising committee for the consecration of Archbishop designate Raphael P’mony Wokorach.

Monsignor Lawrence Komakech is expected to work with other members yet to be elected to welcome Raphael P’mony on a day yet to be announced.

According to Odama, the consecration of the new Archbishop should not exceed two months from his appointment date as stipulated in the Roman Catholic Canon Law.

In a letter seen by Radio Rupiny, the archbishop designate wrote to the Christians of Gulu, through the Archbishop Emeritus, that he will consult the Holy See (Pope) to extend the date for his installation to probably after June 3, 2024, since both Gulu Archdiocese and Nebbi Diocese are preparing for Peace Week and animation of the Uganda Martyrs’ day respectively.

On March 22, 2024, Pope Francis appointed Bishop of Nebbi Diocese P’mony Wokorach the new archbishop of Gulu replacing Odama who has clocked retirement age after serving Gulu Archdiocese for 25yrs.

P’mony will be the second Gulu archbishop after Odama.
