Former TV presenter Gabie Ntaate and Australia-based gospel dancehall artiste Coopy Bly were named best gospel artistes at the Royal Gospel Music Awards that took place at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala on Thursday, January 25, 2024.

Ntaate won two awards - Best Female Gospel Artiste of the Year and Artiste of the Year -  wheras Coopy Bly took the award for Best Male Gospel Artiste

She beat Pastor Wilson Bugembe, Levixone, Titus Kuteesa, Coopy Bly and Pastor  Herbert Twina for the award of the artiste of the year

For the Best Female Artiste of the Year award, Ntaate defeated Lena Price, Pastor Justine Nabbosa, Zabuli and Karungi.

“My heart is overjoyed. Thank you all and above all, God be glorified for this achievement and I am greatful for everyone that made this happen,” she said after receiving the awards

For the Best Male Artiste award, Coopy Bly defeated Levixone, Titus Kuteesa, Pastor Wilson Bugembe and Pastor Herbert Twina.

In a recorded message Coopy Bly, who is currently in Austria with his family, expressed happiness over winning the award, and said that he is still connects with his fans via social media despite being away from Uganda for a long time.

The award for the Song of the Year was won taken by Titus Kuteesa,who came walking with support of crutches having been involved in a city boda boda accident

“ I got a bodaboda accident in the middle of one of the city junctions and sustained injuries. I’m still in pain in my left leg but I will recover by the Grace of God,” he said after getting the award

The Tiktoker of the Year award was won by Joy Justine Blessing and the award of the Worship Minister of the Year was taken by Jonathan Babara and Proclaim.

Dancehall artiste Ragga Pastor was given the award of the Best Ragga Artiste and the award of the best gospel DJ went to DJ Urban

Ivan Mesh took the award of Best Hipop Artiste, Sabula Nation got the award of Best Dance Group and Job Kiiza and Segmental won the award of Best Collaboration for their song, Bwerere.

Legendary gospel artistes Kirwana Africa, Betty Namaganda and Betty Muwanguzi and Betty Nakibuuka (Baby Gloria’s mother) were given honorary awards for their great contribution to the Ugandan gospel music industry.

Apostle Alex Mitala, Bishop David Kiganda and Pastor Simon Kayiwa appealed to the new generation of gospel artistes to start doing music that will stand the test of time.

They also laid hands on and prayed for artistes that attended the event, saying they want them to get knowledge and wisdom in ministering using their music.
