Preparations are in high gear as NIC Netball Club gears up to defend their title at the East Africa Games, set to kick off this weekend in Zanzibar.
“We are ready. We’ve been preparing over the last few weeks, but since the league has been inactive, you can tell the players are not yet as sharp as we’d like,” said assistant coach Ali Mugisha.
NIC remains a top contender this year, but they face stiff competition from KCCA, who recently handed them their only loss in the ongoing Netball Super League Division One season. Prisons Netball Club, last year’s runners-up in the tournament held in Kenya, will also be eyeing the title, adding to Uganda’s strong presence and raising the competitiveness of the event.
“The fact that KCCA is participating this year definitely makes things more challenging for us—but also more exciting for the tournament,” Mugisha added.
NIC is expected to travel to the Tanzanian island on Thursday with a 12-player squad. However, the journey could present some challenges depending on the mode of transport.
