Prisons Netball Club secured their third consecutive win of the tournament against Zanzibar’s Zimamoto with a score of 73-26.

This followed a massive victory against Tanzania’s Warriors, which ended 73-12 in their second game. In their first game of the tournament, Prisons defeated Zanzibar’s KVZ 57-32.

These three victories suggest that Prisons' head coach, Ruth Meeme, has not encountered significant challenges in her quest to win her first East Africa title as a coach, a clear testament that Prisons made a good choice by appointing her a head coach.

Meeme, who is on a journey to make history as a coach after retiring from active play in 2022, remains hopeful that if her players execute what they have practiced, they will secure this year’s championship.

However, she understands that last year’s defending champions, NIC, remain the only obstacles in her title race.

Expressing confidence, she stated, "They are strong, but they also know that we are strong. The girls are ready mentally and physically, “Meeme explained.

She added that they are relying on the experience of their players to put up a good show citing that “Competing at the East Africa level is not new to us; our players know what it takes to win. We are hungry for a trophy, and that hunger will drive my team to glory,” Meeme emphasized

To win the title, Meeme is determined to leverage experienced players like Lilian Ajio, Stella Nanfuka, Joyce, and goal-shooter Christine Namulumba. Meeme will be seeking a fourth title for Prisons, while NIC will be aiming for their 22nd title.

Thirteen clubs, comprising nine female teams and four male teams, are taking part in this year’s tournament, hosted in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Due to a lower turnout, the tournament is being played in a round-robin format, with the victor decided based on accumulated points.

At the 2024 East Africa netball club championships, Uganda is represented by four clubs: NIC and Prisons in the female category, and WOB and NIC in the male category.
