UGANDA DECIDES 2026
Incumbent President Yoweri Museveni of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) has maintained an early lead in an eight-way presidential race, according to the second set of provisional results released by Electoral Commission (EC) chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama.
He announced the provisional results at 9:30am on Friday (January 16) at the National Tally Centre in Lubowa. The electional body had by then received results from 22,758 polling stations (44.85%).
Behind Museveni is Robert Kyagulanyi of the National Unity Platform (NUP) and Nathan Nandala Mafabi of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) in third.
Others followed in the following order: Mugisha Muntu of Alliance for National Transformation (ANT), Mubarak Munyagwa of Common Man’s Party (CMP), Joseph Mabirizi of Conservative Party (CP), Robert Kasibante of National Peasants Party (NPP) and Frank Kabinga of Revolutionary People’s Party (RPP).
“Valid votes in total so far are 5,194,338, invalid votes so far are 129,441, representing 2.43% of the total votes cast. Total votes received so far, 5,323,779 representing 24.59% of the registered from the national voters register, spoilt votes 17, 281," said EC boss Byabakama.
The EC will be releasing the results at regular intervals, with the next session scheduled for 2pm Friday.
