Uganda Decides 2026: Museveni leads in second set of provisional results

Incumbent President Yoweri Museveni has maintained his early lead, according to the latest and second set of provisional results released by the Electoral Commission (EC) at 9:30am, Friday, January 16, 2026.

According to EC chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama, the total number of polling stations from which they have received results so far is 22,758, representing 44.85% of the total number of polling stations.


“Valid votes in total so far are 5,194,338, invalid votes so far 129,441, representing 2.43% of the total votes cast. Total votes received so far, 5,323,779, representing 24.59% of the registered from the national voters’ register, spoilt votes 17,281,” Byabakama said, insisting that was the position currently.


The total number of registered voters is 21,649,067 on the national voters register. The total number of polling stations is 50,739.


EC chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama said so far,

  1. Museveni, who is the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag-bearer has scored 3,960,438 votes, representing 76.25% of the valid votes counted so far.
  2. Frank Bulira Kabinga of Revolutionary People’s Party (RPP) scored 23,267, representing 0.45% of the valid votes cast.
  3. Robert Kasibante of the National Peasants Party 15,929, representing 0.31%.
  4. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu of the National Unity Platform (NUP) 1,312,047 votes, representing 19.65%.
  5. Joseph Mabirizi of the Conservative Party scored 10,920, representing 0.21%.
  6. Gregory Mugisha Muntu of Alliance for National Transformation scored 29,504 votes, representing 0.57%.
  7. Mubarak Munyagwa of Common Man's Party scored 14,742 votes, representing 0.28%.
  8. James Nathan Nandala Mafabi of Forum for Democratic Change scored 108,301 votes, representing 2.08%.


Byabakama said EC would be releasing the results at regular intervals, and the next session will be at 2:00 pm on Friday.

First set of results

In the first set of results released on Thursday at 9:30 pm, indicated

  1. Museveni had scored 14,232 votes, representing 61.7% of the valid votes counted so far. 
  2. Frank Bulira Kabinga of Revolutionary People’s Party (RPP) scored 84 votes, representing 0.36% .
  3. Robert Kasibante of the National Peasants Party 66, representing 0.29%.
  4. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu of the National Unity Platform (NUP) 7,753 votes representing 33.64%.
  5. Joseph Mabirizi of the Conservative Party scored 45, representing 0.20%.
  6. Gregory Mugisha Muntu of Alliance for National Transformation scored 164 votes, representing 0.71%.
  7. Mubarak Munyagwa of Common Man's Party scored 145 votes, representing 0.63%.
  8. James Nathan Nandala Mafabi of Forum for Democratic Change scored 560 votes, representing 2.45%.


Byabakama said, these were the preliminary results that the commission has received and ascertained so far from the 133 polling stations representing 0.26% of total polling stations.


He said the invalid votes so far were 796, representing 3.34% of the total votes cast. The total number of votes was 23,845, representing 0.11% votes of the total number of registered votes. The spoiled votes are 37.
