KAMPALA - As Electoral Commission chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama today, January 17, 2026, announced the final tally of the 2026 General Election results, New Vision Online captured the mood at the National Tally Centre at Lweza in Lubowa.

The final results indicate that Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) had a commanding lead over the closest challenger, National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu.  

Museveni secured 7,946,772 votes (71.65%) of the 11,366,201 valid votes cast out of the about 21.6 million registered voters. Kyagulanyi secured 2,741,238 votes (24.7%).
