Prresident Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who is the National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential flagbearer, has rallied the people of Nebbi district in West Nile sub-region to embrace government development programmes as well as maintain the peace ushered in by his government.

This was at his second rally in West Nile on Saturday (October 11) at Namrwodho Primary School in Nebbi Municipality.

He had started off his West Nile tour in Pakwach, but had to ease off to attend to state duties, which included officiating at Uganda's 63rd independence anniversary at Kololo in Kampala.

Still in the capital, the president also officially closed the Afro-Arab Youth Congress at Munyonyo on Friday.

Back on the campaign trail in Nebbi as he seeks re-election, Museveni invited the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni, to address the rally.

In her delivery, she urged the people of Nebbi and Ugandans at large to vote for peace.

She rallied them to reflect on where Uganda has come from in terms of peace and stability, emphasising that development and prosperity can only thrive in a peaceful country.

The First Lady said it is the collective responsibility of every citizen to safeguard peace in their motherland, Uganda.

Later, President Museveni addressed the huge crowd, largely NRM supporters, and highlighted the importance of peace and unity.

He underlined the NRM’s long-standing efforts in promoting those values, which he said have kept Uganda stable for decades and also enabled the NRM government to build disciplined institutions such as the army and the Police.

The NRM presidential frontrunner spoke about infrastructural projects, noting that his government has successfully constructed roads, including the one from Karuma to Koboko.

He pledged that the road from Nebbi to Goli will also be constructed and asked the people of Nebbi to vote him and the NRM flagbearers.

"In terms of health, there are 16 sub-counties, and 10 of them have health centres in Nebbi; only six do not. We are committed to ensuring that the remaining six also receive facilities," said Museveni.

"On electricity, I am glad that finally, West Nile is linked to the national grid all the way to Koboko. I, therefore, ask the people of Nebbi to vote for the NRM to enable us to continue with our path to achieving a high-income middle status."
