MOROTO - Peterken Lochap, the winner of the disputed election of January 15, has maintained the lead after Moroto Magistrates’ Court dismissed the appeal against the poll results.

Court records show that he got 10,241 votes to retain his seat against 7,753 bagged by his contender Joseph Lomonyang.

The ruling was made Tuesday evening by James Opio, the Chief Magistrate of Moroto Nakakakapit Magisterial area.

In his application, Lomonyang wanted results from seven polling centers nullified.
However, Opio ruled that agents' failure to sign the DR forms does not nullify the results of an election.

He also told court that the ballot boxes were tampered with; therefore, recounting was not applicable.
