KWANIA - The National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, has rallied the people of Lango to embrace unity in the country as opposed to discrimination.

The presidential hopeful made the pledge during his campaign rally at Ikwera Primary School Playground in Aduku town council, Kwania District, on Saturday, accusing the NRM of promoting disunity in the country intentionally.

Kyagulanyi said the days of division are over and promised to promote unity, love, reconciliation and national progress if elected President.

"Ever since I stepped on the land of Lango, I wanted to preach the message of national unity. Those who ruled over us have divided us intentionally for 40 years. They don't want us to come together. We have a chance to start afresh and build the nation. A new Uganda where all of us will be equal, no matter your tribe," he said.

Better remuneration for teachers, medical staff

Kyagulanyi said if Ugandans entrust him with the presidency, he will address the deteriorating education and health sectors by increasing the staff's wages.

"The education and health sectors are limping because staff are not paid well. Just vote for an umbrella in January next year that will be sorted," he said.

Fishing communities

On the plight of fishermen on Lake Kwania, Kyagulanyi said once elected to State House, he will withdraw all soldiers currently deployed on Lake Kwania and other water bodies across Uganda.

He accused the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) Fisheries Protection Unit of harassing and torturing fishermen under the guise of enforcing regulations.

He argued that the continued military deployment on Uganda's lake, initially justified as a conservation measure, has instead resulted in widespread abuse and economic hardship for the fishing communities.

During the same rally, Kyagulanyi also promised to improve the status of public universities, saying the government has neglected the region's education needs for decades.

He alleged that in Lango, the old people are more educated than the young people. It is intentional to destroy the young generation. In the new Uganda, once again, you are going to have human dignity and Uganda where life will make sense," he said.

Kyagulanyi, National Unity Platform, NUP presidential candidate, is currently in Lango on a campaign trail.

He arrived at Aduku town council in Kwania district from Lira City at 2:40pm Saturday, where he held a peaceful campaign and later proceeded to Kole District.
