With only two months to go, to the Uganda Martyrs Day celebrations in Namugogngo, Wakiso district, Nebbi Catholic Diocese says it is having a financial deficit aimed at having successful preparations.

This year, it is the Nebbi Catholic Diocese that is slated to organise the celebrations on June 3, but the budget is still at 61% to plug the gap of shillings 1.79 billion to finalise the preparations.

Nebbi diocese chairperson preparation committees Catherine Mavenjina Akumu made the revelations during a media briefing at Serena Hotel on Wednesday, March 27, 2024.

According to Akumu, they have 'made various fundraising drives, and we have been carrying out letters in various entities requesting them for the support both in cash and kind towards these Martyrs Day celebrations'.

"I appeal to you all people of goodwill to support Nebbi Diocese in realising successful and fruitful celebrations. With your spiritual, financial, and all kinds of support, we shall be able to meet our budget, which is much needed for the success of the occasion,” she added.

She added that “the main organising diocese must mobilise funds to ensure preparations go on. We are counting on faith-based and well-wishers to raise funds”.

According to the chairperson, the budget is aimed at covering expenses related to pastoral and liturgical work, public address system, renovation of the place, electricity bills, transport, banners, decoration, catering, pilgrims’ accommodation, medical, protocol, water and sanitation, choir feeding and training them, health care, general coordination while giving prominence to the liturgical importance of the Martyrs commemoration to have an orderly and prayerful celebration to honor the 24 Martyrs and among others.
