Church of Uganda launches preparations for Martyrs Day 2023

The celebration of June 3, 2023, will be animated by 10 dioceses, which form the eastern cluster of the Church of Uganda.

The Church of Uganda has started preparations for the celebration of Uganda Martyrs’ Day (2023). 

The celebration of June 3, 2023, will be animated by 10 dioceses, which form the eastern cluster of the Church of Uganda.

They include Bukedi, Busoga, Central Busoga, Karamoja, Kumi, Mbale, North Karamoja, North Mbale, Sebei and Soroti. Bishop Samuel Bogere Egesa of Bukedi diocese is the Chairman of the cluster.

The preparations were launched by the First Deputy Prime Minister, the Rt, Hon Rebecca Kadaga, who is the Chairperson of the Central Organizing Committee of the event. 

The function took place at Namugongo Anglican Martyrs Site (Wakiso district) on Thursday (October 6, 2022).  

Kadaga called upon Christians, corporate organizations and all Ugandans of goodwill to contribute money towards the preparation of the celebration, which she said, requires sh2bn.

Prior to the launch, Kadaga visited Namirembe Cathedral, where she paid homage to the tomb of Bishop James Hannington, who was murdered in Busoga on October 29, 1885.

The function was also graced by Bishop Samuel Egesa Bogere (Bukedi), Bishop Paul Moses Samson Naimanhye (Busoga), the Principal of Uganda Martyrs Seminary Namugongo, Rev. Esau Bbosa, the state minister for Karamoja, Hon Agnes Nandutu and Hon. Jacob Marksons Oboth Oboth.
