The third leg of the World Rally Championship (WRC), the Kenya Safari Rally, will take place from March 20 to 23, 2025, in Naivasha, Kenya.
Two Ugandan drivers, Yasin Nasser and Timothy Gawaya, will compete in this global event. Nasser has vowed to give his best performance and complete the rally successfully.
Nasser, the 2019 and 2023 National Rally Champion, is sponsored by MOIL Energies. Last year, he was forced to retire from the event during Special Stage 7 in Kedongo, but he considers that experience a valuable lesson.
This time, Nasser will be navigated by Ally Katumba in a newly rebuilt Ford Fiesta R5. He will draw motivation from the thousands of Ugandans traveling to support African crews, particularly the Ugandan participants.
“It has been a long journey. We have gone through a lot, but this time feels a bit more special. We have prepared well and are ready to go out and enjoy ourselves properly,” Nasser said during the flag-off ceremony at the National Council of Sports (NCS).
“This WRC event will be more challenging, but we are going to give it 99 percent effort. We will remain cautious to avoid repeating past mistakes and aim to finish the rally,” Nasser added.
Meanwhile, Timothy Gawaya, navigated by Francis Wamala, will make his debut in the global event. He will be driving a two-wheel-drive car.
