Rally driver Yasin Nasser has made a resounding comeback to Ugandan sprints, asserting his dominance on the track by outpacing 30 drivers to claim victory in the second round of the National Sprint Championship.

Held at the Victoria Raceway Park in Garuga over the weekend, the event witnessed Nasser showcase his exceptional driving skills, posting a total time of 8 minutes, 4 seconds, and 91 microseconds (0:08:04.91).

This impressive feat not only solidified his position as one of the top contenders in the championship but also sent shockwaves of excitement among fans who have been eagerly anticipating his return to the sport.

Nasser's victory was a testament to his unwavering dedication and skill behind the wheel. The MOIL Energies sponsored driver had taken a two-season sabbatical, distancing himself from local sprints since his last participation in the Boxing Day Championship Sprint at the Busiika Extreme Adventure Park in 2023.

Duncan Mubiru and Ronald Ssebuguzi put up a commendable fight, recording times of 0:08:14.15 and 0:08:17.08, respectively. However, Nasser's precision and speed on the Victoria Raceway track proved unbeatable, earning him the top spot on the podium.

The event's format, which featured three run loops instead of the usual two, gave competitors more opportunities to showcase their skills and pushed them to their limits. This format tested the drivers' endurance and strategy, making Nasser's victory all the more impressive.

The National Sprint Championship has consistently served as a valuable platform for drivers to hone their skills and gain valuable experience. This event, in particular, provided drivers with a crucial opportunity to fine-tune their skills and strategies in preparation for the forthcoming Fort Portal Rally, scheduled for August 22 and 23.

In a separate event held at the same venue, the sixth round of the Mountain Dew National Motocross Championship took place, featuring an impressive display of skill and sportsmanship. Riders put up remarkable performances, with some debuting new bikes and testing their skills.

The competition was marked by a poignant moment when riders observed a moment of silence, donned black attire, and participated in a general heat around Victoria Raceway Park to pay their respects to the deceased younger rider Mary Thecla Nalwanga, who passed away the previous week. This heartfelt gesture underscored the solidarity and camaraderie within the Ugandan motocross community, highlighting the strong bonds that exist among riders.

The winners of the various categories at the sixth round of the Mountain Dew National Motocross Championship saw Ronieta Ssebuguzi emerged victorious in the MX 50cc junior category, while Abigail Katende claimed the top spot in the MX 50cc senior category.

Jamairah Makumbi dominated the MX 65cc category, and Miguel Katende excelled in the MX 85cc class. Gift Ssebuguzi secured the win in the MX 125cc category, and Yasin Ssemakula and Ashim Sserwadda took the top spots in the MX 2 and MX 1 categories, respectively. Rogers Ssebunnya was the standout performer in the MX Vets category, showcasing his experience and skill.
