Yasin Nasser aims to defend ARC title

Yasin Nasser remains one of Uganda's most accomplished rally drivers, with his recent African Rally Championship (ARC) title ending a 26-year wait for the country to reclaim continental success.

Since his debut at the 2015 UMC Fort Portal Rally, Nasser has built a reputation founded on discipline, strategy, and consistency, establishing himself among the leading figures in Ugandan motorsport.

Nasser's driving style is defined by control and precision. He is known for managing rallies over long distances, carefully balancing pace with risk to maintain competitive positions while avoiding costly errors. His ability to combine steady performance with well-timed acceleration has consistently delivered results across full rally weekends. This measured approach was instrumental in his rise through the National Rally Championship, where he secured the national title through consistent and tactically sound performances.

He is partnered with Ali Katumba, one of the region's most experienced co-drivers. Their combination has developed into a reliable and effective pairing, built on clear communication, trust, and shared focus. Katumba's accurate pace notes and leadership inside the car continue to play a critical role in the team's overall performance.

The crew competes in a Ford Fiesta R5, a machine recognised for its reliability and strong performance on African gravel stages. Nasser's experience across multiple rally platforms  from Subaru machinery to modern R5 cars, has enabled him to maximise the car's capabilities at both national and continental levels.

Since his debut, Nasser has shown steady progression, evolving into a consistent front-runner in Ugandan rallying. His national success provided the foundation for his entry into the African Rally Championship, where he has since achieved significant results, including his recent continental title.

As he heads into the Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally 2026, Nasser begins his title defence under heightened expectations. Having already opened his ARC campaign at the WRC Safari Rally Kenya, he returns to home soil focused on securing maximum points.

In addition to his individual campaign, he will also take on leadership responsibilities as Team Uganda captain, guiding the national effort against strong regional and international competition.

Nasser's experience, disciplined approach, and proven results position him as a central contender in the 2026 season, as he aims to defend his African Rally Championship title and maintain Uganda's standing at the forefront of the sport.
