The Secretary of the Ministry of Public Service (MOPS) Woodball Club, Alex Niwenyesiga, has urged the woodball national team players to stay focused in order to represent the country effectively.
Niwenyesiga made the appeal to the team on Sunday at Bunjako Beach in Mpigi District, where he had led MOPS Woodball team officials to deliver support to the squad. The donated items included cartons of soda, water, fruits and bananas.
"We are here to appreciate you and motivate you because you are carrying the Uganda flag at the global stage. Stay focused and be disciplined because what we want is victory in the competition," Niwenyesiga said.
The visit boosted the morale of the team, which is preparing for the 10th World Cup in Malaysia scheduled for July 24-30, 2026. The players were excited to see the MOPS officials visit and motivate them ahead of the world cup assignment.
Joan Mukoova, the women's team captain, echoed her team's appreciation for the support, saying the visit was timely and had inspired them to know that the public cares for them.
"We have been here for three weeks, and having such visitors come to visit us is a big motivation. I call upon other corporate brands and clubs to emulate the Ministry of Public Service," Mukoova said.
Her teammate Christine Birungi also echoed Mukoova's words, saying the visit was a big motivation to the team and that they are charged to represent the country to their best.
Sixteen players, including eight men, are in camp under head coach Onesmas Atamba, assisted by Benson Kanyesigye.
The men in camp include Daniel Apita, Samson Rugongeza, Thomas Khedi (captain), Isaac Ariho, Isaac Nabugere, David Kabugo, Brian Gwaaka and Bridge Byamukama.
