Woodball: Atamba urges players to hunt for more medals after World Cup success

After winning the Woodball World Cup gold medal in the women's category and the bronze for men, coach Onesimus Atamba is salivating for more medals.

Atamba has urged his players to go for individual medals in the remaining doubles and stroke competitions that continue this morning.

He told his charges that whereas they have gold and bronze in the team competitions, his target was a gold for both genders, therefore the mission is not completed. "I want to congratulate you for winning a gold and bronze, thank you, but you very well know our target was both gold medals in both genders. So, we are going back strong to hunt for more medals, especially gold and silvers in the stroke competitions," Atamba said.

"What you achieved are team achievements; now it is time for individual achievements, but be careful. If you defeated a player in the fairway team competitions, do not underestimate that player when you beat him or her in the stroke competitions," Atamba added.

The one-week competition attracted 14 countries including China, Peru, Indonesia, Kenya, Chinese Taipei, Mongolia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Uganda, hosts Malaysia, and Korea. Team captain Denis Nanjeru also echoed the coach's words, adding that the team's success should only act as a motivation to win more medals in the stroke competitions today.
