Winnie Isoto's dream comes true with She Cranes call-up

For many young netball players, earning a call up to the national team is the ultimate dream.

For Alice Winnie Isoto, that dream has finally become a reality and she is determined to make every opportunity count.

The National Insurance Corporation (NIC) goal attacker is the only uncapped player among the 15 She Cranes athletes who travelled to South Africa for a training camp and a series of international test matches. While surrounded by experienced teammates, Isoto sees the tour not as a challenge but as the perfect stage to prove she belongs among Uganda's best.

Her inclusion in the squad is the reward for years of hard work, resilience and consistent performances in the National Netball Super League. For now, she has her sights set on an even bigger milestone earning a place on the final 12-player squad that will represent Uganda in Glasgow, Scotland.

"Being summoned to the national team for the first time is something I don't take for granted," Isoto said. "It is a great honor to wear the national colours and to be given an opportunity to represent Uganda in the South Africa test series. If I perform well, I could make the final team heading to Glasgow."

The call-up marks the fulfilment of a lifelong ambition, but Isoto believes it is only the beginning of her journey. Like many elite athletes, she dreams of representing Uganda on both the continental and global stage.

Away from the court, Isoto is equally committed to personal growth. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Social Work and Social Administration from Uganda Christian University, proving that balancing academics and sport is possible with discipline and determination.

She says she chose netball because of the opportunities it presents not only to compete internationally but also to inspire others.

"I thank my coaches for believing in me and recognising my potential by naming me on the She Cranes team," she said. "I will always give 100 percent to ensure I do not let my team down."

As the only new face in the travelling squad, Isoto carries the hopes of every aspiring netballer waiting for their first opportunity.

She Cranes head coach Rashid Mubiru says it is his responsibility to give outstanding players an opportunity to prove themselves and prepare the next generation of national team stars.

"As a coach, iam supposed to give excelling players a chance to prove their worth and continue developing. Every successful team needs replacement players when the time comes. You cannot build or sustain a strong team without introducing and nurturing new talent," Mubiru said.
