Weatherhead Hockey Club captain Moses Tushabe believes his club is going to perform better at the African Cup of Club Championships next year in Nairobi.

This will be Weatherhead’s second appearance at the games after winning the league title.

“We believe we are going to perform better on the African stage in our second appearance on the continent. We are now ready to make the nation proud,” Tushabe said.

Tushabe spoke to the media after getting confirmation from the Africa Hockey Federation that the games are going to be played at Kenton College in Nairobi, Kenya.

The tourney which is in its 33rd edition is going to be held from February 13 to 19.

The 2021 edition of the tourney was held in Ghana’s capital Accra and Egyptian clubs Tairat beat Zamalek 7-2 to win the men’s title

However, Weatherhead stands a chance of performing well after playing a fairly similar surface back home at the Lugogo sand-based artificial field.

“We have a wealth of experience on sand-based Astro surfaces and now the Kenton College pitch is not water based hence will be to our advantage if we work as a unit,” Tushabe said.

Weatherhead’s first appearance at the ACCC in 2017 was a nightmare for the club who won only a single game against fellow Ugandan compatriots Wananchi SC and lost all the others.
