Stephen Wanderema scored 42 points to win the third Mary Louise Simkins Memorial Golf Club Homecoming Golf Tournament, held on Independence Day.
Wanderema, playing in men’s Group B with a handicap of 25, finished ahead of 14 players in his group and more than 50 golfers overall as the club celebrated its 66th anniversary.
Wanderema narrowly beat Kenneth Tumusiime, Derrick Nuwamanya, and Josephine Nakawunde, who each scored 40 points, which won them prizes in their divisions.
Among the women, Prossy Zawedde and Florence Namuganza each scored 31 points in Group A, while Nakawunde and Roselyn Aine led Group B. Kenneth Katarikawe, who also scored 31 points, was the top senior golfer.
Golfers settled for snapping photos of CFAO’s Suzuki A-cross SUV and a Yamaha bike, since no one landed the elusive hole-in-one needed to claim these tempting prizes.
The club administration, led by serving chairman Hebert Kamuntu, recognized the contribution of former club chairman Martin Nsubuga, who was instrumental in laying the foundation for the growth of the membership in Namulonge.
“When I look back at my time as Chairman, I do so with a great deal of gratitude and humility. I inherited a club that had only four paid-up members. By the time I completed my tenure, we had grown to more than 178 paid-up members,” Nsubuga noted.
