Rauben Tumusiime was born a normal child but he lost his sight at the age of 4.

Despite the misfortune, Tumusiime has proved that the disability is not inability He is due to make his debut at the World Archery VI Championships in Birmingham, England from August 21-28.

Tumusiime will be competing in the World Blind Games category which consists of a VI 30 qualification round followed by head-to-head eliminations and finals in B1 to B5 events.

“Even though this is my first international archery championship, I am focused on performing well to get the points that will enable me to get closer to the Paralympics qualifiers in Tunisia in November,” Tumusiime said during his last training session at the Makerere University Rugby grounds in Wandegeya where he was perfecting his shooting and target skills.

The Bachelor of Education student continued to make it clear that he is now venturing into archery despite taking part in athletics.

“I have been taking part in athletics but wanted to expand more in sports hence venturing into archery of which I can confidently state that I will attain my nation's victory on the world stage,” he said.

The soft-spoken Tumusiime is now ranked 4th in Africa and 18th worldwide in athletics for the blind.

He is happy that his family and friends are not sidelining him because of his disability.

“My family and friends especially my parents have been so supportive in this sports journey and always motivated me to work hard,” he reasoned.

Education background

Tumusiime attended Buhombi Primary School and Kisoro Primary School. He later studied his O'Level at Hombi High School and A'Level at Iganga SS.
