Vipers SC are poised for a crucial return leg showdown this Saturday, 27th September 2025, as they host African Stars at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, in a high-stakes continental tie.

The match marks a significant moment for newly appointed head coach Ivan Jacky Minnaert, who will lead the Venoms in front of the home crowd for the first time.

The Belgian tactician, a UEFA Pro-License holder with coaching stints in Guinea, Libya, South Africa, Kenya, and Rwanda, expressed confidence in the impact of the passionate Kitende supporters.

“We expect a full house at St Mary’s, and we know the fans will push us,” Minnaert said during the pre-match press conference.

Minnaert confirmed that he has a fully fit squad at his disposal, offering him a wide array of selection options.

“All the players are available. We have about 30 quality players to pick from, and there are no injury concerns,” he added.

Vipers carry a slender advantage into the second leg, having secured a 1-0 win in the first leg at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town, courtesy of an early goal from defender Hilary Mukundane. That away victory means the Venoms need only a draw or another win to advance to the second round, where they will face either ASEC Mimosa of Ivory Coast or Zambia’s Power Dynamos.

Team captain Milton Karisa emphasized the importance of mental resilience and unwavering commitment as the team prepares for the decisive encounter.

Meanwhile, African Stars are determined to overturn the deficit. Head coach Bob Mafoso and captain Ronald Ketjijere have vowed to challenge Vipers to the limit. The Namibian side arrived in Uganda earlier this week and are currently camped at Hotel Horizon in Entebbe. They have already trained at St Mary’s Stadium and will hold their final session on Friday, 26th September.

With both teams fully prepared and the stakes high, Saturday’s clash promises to be a thrilling contest that could shape the trajectory of Vipers SC’s continental ambitions.
