Ibrahim Kasinde’s 65th-minute goal was enough to secure a 1-0 victory for SC Villa against UPDF on Tuesday at the Bombo Military Barracks, sending the Jogoos to the top of the Uganda Premier League (UPL) table with 16 points for the first time this season.

The win also marked Villa's fifth consecutive triumph this season, further cementing their title aspirations under Serbian coach Zeljko Kovacevic.

Since their opening-day 2-1 loss to KCCA, Villa have gone unbeaten, racking up 16 points from six matches, five wins and one draw, the highest points tally in that period.

Elsewhere, Maroons returned to winning ways with a dominant 3-0 win over Lugazi at the Luzira Prisons Grounds. Raymond Walugembe put the Prison Warders ahead in the 1st minute, followed by Jackson Nunda’s strike in the 33rd minute. Ivan Asaba sealed the victory with a third goal in the 87th minute.

This victory marked Maroons’ first home win of the season and their second overall after a string of inconsistent performances. Their first win came in a 2-1 triumph away to UPDF in Bombo last month. The team will be hoping to build on this momentum as they continue their campaign.

UPL action continues on wednesday with a double header at Hamz Stadium Nakivubo with URA hosting Buhimba United Saints in the early kickoff at 5pm before defending champions Vipers lock horns with rivals Express under the floodlights at 8pm.
