The 2026 Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Teso Zone Ball Games II and Athletics are currently underway at Bishop Maraka College in Kumi District.

The five-day championship, co-hosted by Bishop Maraka College and Wiggins SS, has brought together 800 participants competing in various sports disciplines, including volleyball, netball, handball, 3X3 basketball, rugby sevens, athletics, Kho Kho, cricket, football (boys and girls, U-15 and U-17), and mind games, among others.

Francis Ebenu, head teacher of Bishop Maraka College and chairperson of the local organizing committee, expressed confidence that hosting such zonal championships aids in talent identification, development, and recreation. He commended the Teso Zone executive for selecting Bishop Maraka College as the main host and promised to ensure the games are successful.

“We had been preparing for this championship over the last two months, and with full backing from the district municipal authorities, everything is in place, ranging from accommodation, water, electricity, security, and fields of play,” said Ebenu.

Kumi Municipal Mayor John Bosco Emenyat lauded the organizers for choosing Kumi Municipality as the host. “I want to welcome all participants and guests to Kumi Municipality. I also thank the Ministry of Education and Sports for the choice of Soroti to host USSSA,” Emenyat said.
