The Uganda Secondary School Sports Association (USSSA) president, Justus Mugisha, has congratulated Jocelyn Ucanda on her election as the new president of Netball Uganda.
Ucanda, the team manager of NIC Netball Club, was elected unopposed during an assembly held on Saturday, making her the first president of the reformed association.
Her new executive team includes William Bwambale as VP for Administration, Richard Muhumuza as VP for Technical, Amina Mande as Secretary, and Yusuf Kamulegeya as Treasurer, with regional representatives rounding out the leadership.
Mugisha, currently leading Uganda’s team at the ISF Gymnasiade U18 games in Bahrain, expressed his enthusiasm over Ucanda's inclusion of USSSA and Uganda Primary Schools Sports Association (UPSSA) members in the new netball leadership.
In a congratulatory message shared on social media, Mugisha praised Ucanda’s collaboration with esteemed educators, such as Richard Muhumuza, Alice Alwenyi, and Daglous Kabwegyere from USSSA, and William Bwambale, president of UPSSA, whose involvement underscores the important role of schools in netball development.
Mugisha affirmed USSSA's commitment to working closely with Netball Uganda to advance the sport, expressing confidence that the combined expertise of the new executive will propel netball to new heights.
Despite some criticism from netball enthusiasts, Ucanda and her team are set to receive the official handover from the normalization committee soon, after which they will begin implementing their vision for the sport’s growth in Uganda.
