UPDF to complete construction of Teso College swimming pool in August

The Uganda Peoples Defence Forces Engineering Brigade which is tasked with the construction of Teso College Aloet swimming pool in Soroti is set to hand over the pool by September 14.

Lt. Col. Eng Peter Seku Kidemuka, the project Engineer, in a progress report delivered during the second site meeting on Monday, said the construction works that started in September 2023 currently stands at 82% and is to be completed in August 2024. 

“I want to promise that by August 14, the construction of Teso College Aloet swimming pool will have been accomplished and ready for handover,” Kidemunka said.

According to Kidemuka, the construction work is currently at the level of insertion of pressurized concrete before placing tiles.

Kidemuka hailed President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and First Lady Janet Kataha Museveni for supporting sports in the country.

The government of Uganda through the Ministry of Education and Sports allocated TCA sh1.5b during the 2020 financial year budget, to provide a facility that could enable the school to host local, national, and international competitions.

The meeting that was attended by officials from the Ministry of Education and Sports, Uganda Secondary Schools’ Sports Association leaders, Local government, Soroti city leadership, and representatives from the National Council of Sports was chaired by Soroti Resident Commissioner Peter Pex Paak.

Santa Ateng. a Senior Education Officer at the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Sports applauded UPDF Brigade for the good work.

“As a ministry, we are so delighted with the work done so far by the UPDF Engineering Brigade in ensuring that the construction work of the swimming pool has gone to its completion,” Ateng said.

 

Davide Katende, the Assistant General Secretary of the National Council of Sports said Teso is blessed to get a two-in-one semi-Olympic standard-size facility which can allow the school to host swimming events domestically and at the international level.

“Looking at the size of the two swimming pools in the region, we shall be in a position as the National Council of Sports to recommend Teso College Aloet to host all kinds of swimming competitions locally, nationally, and internationally.

Katende encouraged the UPDF Engineering Brigade to fully follow the right BoQs designated for the works.
