UGX Luwero have set realistic ambitions for the 2026 Netball Uganda Super League season, with the community-based side prioritising survival over silverware.

Based in Luwero District, UGX Luwero has endured an inconsistent journey in the top flight, with financial constraints forcing the club in and out of the league over the years.

After earning another opportunity to compete at the highest level last year, the club's immediate objective is to avoid relegation and build a stronger foundation for the future.

Assistant coach Disan Wasswa believes remaining in the Super League would represent a significant achievement for the team, considering the challenges they have faced in recent seasons.

"Our main target is to survive relegation," Wasswa said. "Last season we did not perform well for several reasons, but this year we have prepared better. We are not putting ourselves under pressure to win the league. Our focus is to remain in the Super League and continue building a competitive team for the future."

Wasswa noted that the technical team has adopted a gradual development approach, with emphasis on improving consistency, correcting mistakes from previous campaigns and helping the players gain valuable experience against the country's top clubs.

Player Ritah Katusiime echoed the coach's sentiments, describing the current campaign as an important learning phase for the squad.

"This season is about learning and growing together as a team," Katusiime said. "We know there are areas where we still need to improve, but every match gives us an opportunity to become better. We are working hard to correct the mistakes we have made, and we believe that by the end of the season we shall have gained the experience needed to compete more strongly next year."

Katusiime added that despite the difficult challenge of facing more established sides, the players remain motivated and determined to prove they belong in the Super League.

With several fixtures still to play, UGX Luwero will be hoping to collect enough points to secure their top-flight status. While the club may not be among the title contenders this season, their commitment to steady progress and long-term development reflects a team determined to overcome financial limitations.
