Ugandan golfers Deo Akope, Richard Baguma, Abbey Bagalana, and Willy Kitata could once again not find their rhythm in the Muthaiga Golf Club leg of this year’s Safari Tour when they all missed the cut in the tournament that ended on Wednesday.
Of the four, only Baguma came closer to the sh30m prize money after he missed the cut by one stroke alongside Nigeria’s Gift Willy after posting 149 gross in the opening two rounds; with the cut at 148.
After making the cut in the previous event where he picked 17.7 points, it was thought that Akope would make further headway in search of the second slot for the no-Kenyan nationals where he is in contention with Kasozi.
But having failed on that front, Akope now remains on 115.5 points, 93 behind Kasozi who remains the best placed Ugandan to grab the second slot having accumulated 208.5pts to-date.

At Muthaiga Kenya’s Mohit Mediratta and Dismas Indiza shared the spoils having carded 281 gross each with Zimbabwe’s Robson Chinhoi, who leads the standings for the non-Kenyan nationals, and is already assured of a slot to play in the Magical Kenya Open, finishing third having returned 282.
With only the Karen Golf Club leg of the tour left before the Magical Kenya Open next month, it is only Kasozi that looks likely to qualify for the sh4b prize money-European Tour event presented by Absa Bank.
