Uganda women volleyballers gear up for Africa Cup of Nations
Sixteen national teams are set to compete in the 2026 Women's African Nations Volleyball Championship, to be held in Nairobi, Kenya, from August 23 to September 5, 2026.

The national women’s volleyball team has intensified training at Old Kampala Arena ahead of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Championship in Nairobi, Kenya.
Sixteen national teams are set to compete in the 2026 Women's African Nations Volleyball Championship, to be held in Nairobi, Kenya, from August 23 to September 5, 2026.
The participating countries include Kenya, Egypt, Cameroon, Rwanda, Algeria, Nigeria, Morocco, Uganda, Mali, Burkina Faso, Tunisia, Senegal, Ghana, DR Congo, Burundi, and Zambia.
The Uganda team has intensified training from Monday to Friday at Old Kampala Arena in preparation for the continental tournament.
Uganda qualified for the tournament after finishing top in the Zone V qualifiers, which were hosted in Kampala.
In 2023, Uganda finished 8th in a tournament hosted by Cameroon and this time aims to improve on that performance.
The training squad includes: Oliver Acan and Hadijah Acelun (setters); Jennifer Alungat, Lydia Asimo, Jemima Lamaro, and Lisa Nakitto (middle blockers); Moreen Mwamula, Joan Tushemereirwe, Scovia Alungat, and Renata Kamahoro (opposite right attackers); Ketty Aluka, Claire Najjuko, Hadija Otin, Catherine Ainembabazi, Praise Kirabo, and Monica Aloyo (receivers); and Shamirah Kalanzi and Noel Asekenyi (liberos).
Kenya (hosts), Egypt, Cameroon, Rwanda, Algeria, Nigeria, Morocco, Uganda, Mali, and Burkina Faso qualified directly, while the zonal representatives include Tunisia (Zone 1), Senegal (Zone 2), Ghana (Zone 3), DR Congo (Zone 4), Burundi (Zone 5), and Zambia (Zone 6).
