Uganda will be hoping to better their sixth-place finish registered in 2024 in Zimbabwe as they compete in the 24th All Africa Team Championships at La Foret Golf Course, La Soukra, Tunisia, October 13-18.
A relatively new team of four comprising Godfrey Kambale, Amon Bwambale, Shaka Kariisa, and Anthony Otukei is up against golfers from 17 countries in the biennial event, hosted by the Africa Golf Federation and the Tunisian Golf Federation.
Kambale, Bwambale, and Otukei will build on their experience from the Victoria Cup as youngster Kariisa makes his senior team debut.
Record winners, South Africa, who are gunning for their 13th title, are the team to beat in the championship with the biggest entry ever seen in the history of the championship.
“This is the biggest entry ever seen in the history of the championship—a clear testament that golf is growing in Africa. The championship will be hosted under the luxurious prize sponsorship of Vessel Golf,” a statement from the Africa Golf Confederation headed by Johnson Omollo stated in part.
“We thank the Tunisian Golf Federation and our partners at Vessel Golf for supporting African golf.” At the 23rd All Africa Golf Team Championship in 2024 at Bulawayo Golf Club in Zimbabwe, Reagan Akena starred for Team Uganda, tying for the first-round lead with a 4-under-par 68.
But Team Uganda, comprising Joseph Cwinyaai, Ibrahim Ssemakula, and Elthon Thembo, finished 6th overall out of 11 countries and as the best team in East Africa.
This year’s championship has attracted participation from host Tunisia, Uganda, Kenya, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Botswana, Egypt, Morocco, and Algeria. Libya, Gabon, Cameroon, Ghana, Mauritius, Reunion, and Seychelles are also in.
