FIBA Africa World Cup Qualifiers second leg

Group A Results

Uganda 20 Mali 00

Cape Verde 79 Nigeria 70

The Uganda Silverbacks picked up two hassle-free points after Mali refused to turn up for their FIBA Africa World Cup second leg qualifier today afternoon in Kigali.

The foul win was made official after the Silverbacks waited for their opponents for 15 minutes after the scheduled tip-off time in vain.

According to reports, Mali players stayed back at the team hotel, protesting over some as yet unknown reason.

Mali beat Uganda 76-66 in the first leg in Angola last year and came into this window tied with Nigeria atop the group. It remains to be seen whether they will play their remaining two fixtures against Nigeria and Cape Verde.

The result means Cape Verde, Nigeria and Uganda are all tied on six points, with Mali bottom with five. Should Mali pull out of their last two fixtures, the top three will qualify for the final round of World Cup qualification.

Uganda take on Cape Verde tomorrow and Nigeria on Sunday. Cape Verde beat Nigeria today 79-70 to go top of Group A.
