Uganda’s athletes are ready to compete at the upcoming International School Sports Federation (ISF) U18 Gymnasiade Games, set to take place from October 22-31, 2024 in Manama, Bahrain.

Representing Uganda are athletes from six schools, competing across five disciplines: table tennis, badminton, tennis, basketball 3x3, and swimming. Additionally, there will be a USSSA-selected athletics team comprising both boys and girls.

The schools and their entries are as follows:

  •  Kibuli Secondary School: Boys' and girls' table tennis, boys' badminton, and boys' tennis.
  • Seroma Christian High School: Girls' basketball 3x3, table tennis, and swimming.
  • Mbogo College: Girls' table tennis.
  • Mbogo Mixed: Boys' table tennis.
  • Mbogo High School: Girls' badminton.
  • Rubaga Girls School: Girls' badminton.

Ryan Manisa, a debut swimmer, expressed gratitude for the opportunity and shared his readiness to compete on the international stage. "It is our first time, but we are prepared to compete and represent well," he said. Manisa is part of a team that hopes to replicate the success Uganda achieved at the ISF games in previous years.

The athletics team includes experienced runner Levi Kituri, who clinched gold in the 1500m event at the U15 ISF Games in Belgrade, Serbia in 2021. Kituri will lead Uganda’s athletics quest in Bahrain, aiming for more accolades. Uganda’s performance at the 2022 ISF games in Normandy, France was remarkable, finishing as the top African country and 7th overall, with a total of 7 medals (2 gold, 1 silver, and 4 bronze).

Acram Kayemba, head of Kibuli's team, noted the extensive training the athletes underwent, stating, "We hope to see them put up a good performance at this world stage."

The Ugandan contingent, flagged off on Monday, will stay at Al Raya Hotel in the center of Manama, as they look to make their country proud once again.
