The Uganda Paralympic Committee has officially unveiled a six-member team set to represent the nation at the 2025 World Para Athletics Championships, scheduled to take place from September 26 to October 5 in New Delhi, India.

Leading the squad is sprinter Fred Masisa, who will serve as team captain. Uganda’s top medal prospect remains David Emong, the 2016 Paralympic gold medalist, who will compete in the T46 1500m.

Joining him on the track are Jonas Oryema (T13 1500m & 5000m), Kaddu Venswa (T47 400m), Prisca Aciro (T47 400m), and Fred Oija (Ab 400m). In the field events, Anna Anzoa will represent Uganda in the F47 javelin throw.

The athletes are currently training at two locations: Teryet High Altitude Training Centre in Kapchorwa and Namboole Stadium, under the supervision of national head coach Vincent Mutagubya.

Both Emong and Masisa bring valuable experience, having competed in the previous edition of the championships held in Kobe, Japan, in May 2024.

Patrick Synole, Director of Administration at the Uganda Paralympic Committee, expressed confidence in the team’s readiness.

“The athletes are in good shape, and we are optimistic about delivering a stronger performance this time around,” he said.

While medals remain a key target, the championships also serve as a crucial opportunity for the athletes to refine their form and improve their international rankings ahead of the 2026 Paralympic Games.

The team is expected to regroup in Kampala this Sunday for the official flag-off ceremony before departing for India.
