Solomon Omara and Stephen Abibi will shoulder Uganda's hopes at the Tanzanian Open Darts Tournament, scheduled to run from Friday to Sunday in Tanzania.

The duo, who will compete in both the singles and doubles categories, are among 16 players representing Uganda at the tournament, which serves as the first leg of the East Africa Darts Championship. The second leg will be the Uganda Open, while the Kenya Open will form the final leg.

"My target is winning the singles, but at worst reaching the semi-finals. We shall also use this opportunity to test our strength in the doubles at the international stage," Omara noted.

The two Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces (UPDF) players won the doubles title at the Commissioner General's Office but have never had the opportunity to pair up in any international event.

The Ugandan contingent includes David Tabaro (leader of delegation), Christine Abalo, Ama Lillian, Okot Alex Mckote, Amia Shamirah Hajarah, Birabwa Milly, Berocan Isaac, Okullu Rogers, Taban Jonathan, Stephen Abibi, Harriet Akot, Solomon Omara, Maria Namuganyi, Nelson Etalu, James Ociiti, Edrine Ssevume, and Paul Langol.

However, several top Ugandan darters are missing from the team list, including Patrick Ochieng, Sarah Makanga, Isaac Passi, Augustin Ndigenawa, Andrew Emomeri, and Ronald Kalete.

Makanga, the African Champion, is absent due to work commitments but remains focused on the Kenya Open, the African Professional Championship in Botswana, and the Africa Championship later this year.
