Uganda men's Rugby 7s coach eyes tactical fine-tuning in Mombasa

Uganda Men's National Rugby 7s head coach Allan Otim will use this weekend's Kenya Driftwood Rugby 7s Circuit to test his squad ahead of critical continental and international engagements later this year and into 2027.
The Ugandan contingent faces a stern test after being drawn into a highly competitive pool alongside Kenyan top-tier sides KCB Rugby Club, Blak Blad, and Kisumu RFC.
The tournament, which serves as the fourth leg of the Kenya SportPesa National 7s Circuit, will take place this Saturday and Sunday, August 22–23, 2026, in the coastal city of Mombasa.
Otim emphasised that the intense regional tournament offers the perfect environment to fine-tune tactical components and evaluate his depth as he builds a more competitive national core.
"We are giving the players a vital opportunity to get themselves tournament-ready for the major assignments coming up in September," Otim noted. "This is a high-level circuit, and it is exactly what we need to polish our game plans."
The former national strength and conditioning coach faces the substantial task of stepping into the footprints of his highly successful predecessor, Tolbert Onyango, who spearheaded Uganda to multiple Rugby Africa Sevens titles in 2016, 2017, 2022, and 2024.
The national delegation departs for Kenya on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, anchored by a blend of experienced veterans and rising talents.
