The Uganda Golf Club (UGC) has named Hole No. 6 at its Kitante course after the late Henry Kamuntu in honor of the club member, avid golfer, and dedicated sportsman who passed away in July 2021.
UGC captain Brian Rwabogo announced the development following a one-day golf tournament held in Kamuntu's memory on Saturday. The event was among the most attended on the club's annual golfing calendar.
"We will always remember his contribution to the sport," Rwabogo said during the prize-giving ceremony.
Kamuntu was a Ugandan corporate banker, economist, and golfer. He was also the son of former Internal Affairs Minister Ephraim Kamuntu.
Minister Kamuntu, who was the chief guest at the climax of the golf day, thanked the golfers on behalf of the family for honoring his late son.
"He was excellent to us in the family, at school, as a worker and in his sports career. We will always miss him, and I thank the golfers for remembering him this way," Minister Kamuntu said.
He presented awards to the overall winners, with James Kinyua taking the men's accolade with a net score of 45 points, while Jia Jia won the women's category with 44 points.
In the team events, Well Out emerged winners with 202 points, while the Kwacha team, of which Kamuntu was an associate, finished second with 195 points.
In the corporate category, Metropole won with 180 points, while Team Stanbic 3 finished second with 95 points.
